ORC Weeks 4+5 Update: We have lights! 💡

Last week I mixed a custom color using some sample pots I had to create the perfect dusty blue. I’ve wanted to use blue in my home for so long, but was so afraid of it looking too pastel (baby blue style) or basically black. I went for it and love love love the color.

This week I trimmed the front facing board to fit after 5 or so tries and got the top box closed up. But before I did that, I needed to route the light cords through the board because once it was nailed in place, I’d lose access.

So we re-wired all of the lights again (super easy! Check my reel for how-to) and hung the most beautiful picture lights. Swipe to see the night view. 😍 Those 3000K bulbs tho… so cozy.

The only hiccup that I ran into this week was that I miscalculated the measurement of the front facing board by 1/4” or so. But Brandon saved the day and we were able to route the side to be flush.

I am so so happy with the direction this nook is headed and also pretty dang proud that I’ve done 98% of it on my own. Getting more comfortable with my saws and power tools with each project.

Next up: figuring out the trim and prepping to paint. We’ve been debating in Stories about the color. My original idea was to do the same color as the walls in a different sheen. What would you do?

Remind me about this box when I can’t find my whisk — yes, the whisk has a red handle and therefore had to be hidden. 😆

⭐️Week 3 ORC Progress⭐️: We did a lot of celebrating this week and not-so-much DIY, but I did learn how to convert these beautiful picture lights from hardwired to plug-in to prep them for the built-in bookcase build. I am way too happy playing with the switches here.

I plugged all of the lights into a smart plug power strip that I plan to connect to Alexa to make it easy to turn the lights on and off from anywhere in the house.

I picked up wood for the built-in and have finalized the art/layout for the gallery wall, so we’re making progress behind the scenes.

I shared a reel about how to mock up designs using the cut out feature in InShot, but I really want to chat about closet lighting. Currently we have two boob lights and one of the lights has been burnt out for some time (I actually just noticed it), so clearly it wasn’t a big deal. We also have a small window here that brings in natural light. So my question is, what direction should lighting be? Should the fixture be clear or have a shade? Should it be flush mount, semi-flush, pendant?!

I am leaning towards something more open vs enclosed to keep the room balanced with the frames being built-in. What do you think? Any personal experiences to share as I source?

Lastly, do you think any of these will work? 1, 2 or 3?
