When I asked my youngest daughter what kind of birthday party she wanted for her 3rd birthday, she said “pink one”. It’s a running joke these days that she doesn’t want anything unless it’s pink. So, to avoid having a pastel-pink baby shower type of party, I decided to go with a smiley face and flower theme, with lots of pink checkered accents.

I have a love/hate relationship with party planning. I definitely go way beyond what is needed or what will be remembered, but it’s fun for me. It jogs my creative brain and I mostly have fun executing it. I think my favorite part is creating the favor bags to go home. I try to come up with unique ideas that won’t be immediately trashed or broken.

In the past I’ve done camping sacks, mini piñatas, wands, etched butter beer mugs, bath bombs, sugar cookies and tattoos, to name a few. We don’t have huge parties, just a few close friends, so I don’t mind spending a little extra to make it fun and memorable.

For this pink smiley face birthday party, I designed all of the paper pieces on Canva and I’m sharing the links to the templates with you below! The favor bags include: customized sunglasses, a DIY bracelet kit, and a box of strawberry pocky. The sunnies and bracelet kits each have a custom paper piece that slides into the clear bag. Everything is tied with a thank you tag and twine!

Assembling is pretty straightforward. I used hot glue to attach the beads to the sunglasses. Then just grabbed handfuls of beads for the DIY bracelet kits. I made sure to include lots of smiley faces.
