My cousins gifted me a Cricut machine over the summer as a get well soon present after I had my gallbladder taken out. It took me nearly six months to open the box. The first project I used it for was this modern, minimal advent calendar.
The original inspiration for this simple advent calendar came from Kristi Murphy. I attempted to cut the stockings on felt using the Cricut machine, but it didn’t go so well so I ended up hand cutting those. I started hand cutting the felt numbers, but my perfectionism got to me and I couldn’t handle all of the numbers not being the same, so I used the Cricut to cut the numbers on black card stock.
Typically we grab a Lego advent calendar set and just pop them out of the box, but this year I wanted to make it a little more fun and special for Tilly. So I popped each lego set out, along with the instructions, and stuck them in the stockings. I strung five lines with twine and used command hooks to attach to the wall.
My friend also suggested taking an Instax photo each day of the month and replacing the Lego with it so we can look at the fun memories. This was a super simple project to take on while getting my feet wet with using the Cricut machine.
Do you have a Cricut? Feel free to send all of the info my way… there’s so much to learn.
