It’s been a long time coming, but we are so thrilled to introduce you to the final piece of our family: Häagen!
Yes, like the ice cream.
Isn’t he the sweetest thing ever? All of us love him so much.
Häagen is a mini multigen bernedoodle, meaning both of his parents are bernedoodles. A “mini” size is considered to be up to 40 lbs, but he was one of the smaller ones in the litter and was only 4.2 lbs when we brought him home! His sister recently had an Embark panel done and it showed that she is roughly 38% Bernese Mountain Dog and 62% Poodle (standard/miniature).
He is considered a blue merle, which is a dog with a coat that is primarily black, white, and gray with patches that appear blue. While I didn’t specifically set out for the merle coloring (I prioritized temperament), I love his unique coat colors and pattern. I’m so happy to see he has some tan in there from his mama, although we expect that to fade to be lighter in the future.
This is him on pick day, about 5 weeks old.
We brought him home at 8 weeks old from a breeder in Las Vegas after what seems like years of research. He is so sweet, smart, chill, and great with kids (so far). He is crate trained and dare I say, nearly potty trained? I don’t want to jinx it but we haven’t had any indoor accidents in three days. He knows his basic commands like sit, down, and come, but I’ve also trained leave it, look at me, center (between legs), and place. He picks it up so quickly that it’s been fun to try new things together.
The girls had been asking for a puppy for more than the last year, and we surprised them with the news that he would join our family on Christmas. Unfortunately we had to postpone his pick up date a week due to previous travel plans.
While I am the main boss lady, the girls have been pitching in with feeding, play time, and poop duty! Yup, that is being enforced for sure.
All of my previous dogs have been rescued and I was very nervous about disrupting our life with a puppy when it seems like we just reached a stage in life where everyone can be independent for a few hours without us, but I did the research and prepared in advance to set us up for success. I think it has made the transition seamless and he’s settling in so well.
If I could do it again, I might not have brought a new puppy home in the midst of a kitchen renovation, but I suppose there would never be a good time then, right? 🙂
Thank you for allowing us to share the joy he brings with you!
